Is Belly Dance Suitable For Me?

Bellydance is suitable for ladies of all ages, shapes, sizes, ability and fitness levels. Bellydance is fun to learn and a wonderful way to become fitter, improve your figure, and shimmy away that excess weight.

What you can expect to Learn

  • earn basic moves, a cardio belly dance warm up to shimmy away the extra pounds and also learn a beautiful Veil Dance to an upbeat piece of music.
  • All students committing to the full 12 week course receive a free gorgeous hip scarf to keep.

The absolute beginners’ class is suitable for those with little or no experience in belly dance... The moves will be broken down and explained in great detail. Each class begins with a warm up using gentle stretching exercises to prepare your body for the moves. This will be followed by hip drops and rib isolations to get your body warmed up and ready to dance. You will learn the variations of soft flowing moves such as hip figure eights, body waves/undulations etc in contrast with the sharper hip moves and energetic shimmies. There is an introduction to new movements each week until you have built up a foundation of all the basics
.

Veil Dance 1

Our very first ever Sitara Dance Choreography! This beautiful veil dance is popular with all of our beginner students. It is danced to an exciting and up beat piece of music and is delightful to watch and very enjoyable to learn. You will learn basic but beautiful veil technique and learn how to incorporate dancing a veil into your dance. Hand out veils will be provided.

Level 1
Suitable for absolute beginners

You will also receive handouts on the moves, full choreography and information on belly dance history...

What Shall I Wear?

Belly dance is usually performed in bare feet. Come wearing something loose and comfortable, perhaps with a scarf to tie around your hips. Additional coin hip scarves are available to purchase in class at a reasonable price.

We look forward to welcoming you on this exciting journey as we learn to master this skilled and beautiful ancient art form together.

(Please note that the Colchester classes will be taught by Annelise)

We look forward to seeing you there!
