Sitara, born in England to Hungarian parents, had a
classical dance training from the age of seven where she found her natural
affinity for dance and performing arts.
Nurturing an interest in Continental dance
styles, Sitara took up Salsa and as her desire to become a professional dancer grew,
she travelled abroad to expand her dance knowledge. It was during
a visit to Turkey that Sitara discovered belly dance, becoming mesmerised by
this ancient, mystic dance form that was to become her passion.
Over the following six years she studied with Middle
Eastern dance teachers who introduced her to both Turkish and Egyptian styles.
Eager to further her training and knowledge, Sitara sought out the most
experienced teachers in the field of bellydance with whom to develop her skills
– and Sitara continues to devote her ongoing training from international
teachers, including Maria d’Silva, Khalad Mhoud, Nancy King, Sandra Tibault, and
Galat and Kay Taylor; and most recently, from Ansuya and Amar Gamal from
The Bellydance Superstars.
Today, while Sitara’s dancing is predominantly a blend of
Turkish and Egyptian, the influence of her dance history and intensive training
can be seen in her unique style. Sitara is deeply inspired by the beauty of the
music that feeds her natural ability to enthral her audience. Her dedication
to pass on her knowledge and experience to her students is a great part of what
makes her classes so successful.
As well as performing at many top London venues and
beyond, Sitara has also danced for the Turkish Ambassador, toured with the
acclaimed bellydance breakbeat band Oojami, and featured on BBC television.
In 2005, Sitara formed The Eastern Roses, a professional
troupe of highly–talented and skilled dancers that evolved from Sitara’s
earlier company, The Desert Rose Dancers. Renowned for their variety, diversity
and spectacular costuming style, and dedicated to providing breathtaking
performances, The Eastern Roses have been wowing audiences in venues across the
South East and beyond ever since. The dancers, specifically chosen for their unique and varied talents in different aspects of
belly dance, promising a varied and spectacular performance, create
unforgettable, stunning shows. Sitara has devoted
long hours to choreographing new and creative routines with the dancers using sagat (finger cymbals), veils, cane and sword dances.
