Southend Carnival 2007 Spectacular
report by SitaraCongratulations to all of you who took part in making carnival day such a great success. You were nothing less than spectacular and to prove it we have been awarded fourth position and were given the Southend Carnival Highly Commended Certificate from the Southend on Sea Carnival Association!
The parade along Southend seafront was an experience in itself with every colour of costume imaginable. Even before the carnival started you were all showing the crowd not only how to belly dance but also how to party and celebrate in true glamour and style.
Many of you had made new costumes and some of you had even invested in professional costumes especially for the occasion and the combination of colours and styles was breathtaking! We were turning the heads of the public who couldn’t believe their eyes at the vision of variety and colour that they were seeing.
You dazzled the public with shimmying hips and fantastic synchronised steps and routines. Everybody seemed to be having fun and when our class dances were played it was wonderful to watch. Poi twirling, stick dancing, the tinkering of finger symbols and spectacular routines…those dancing behind the float barely stopped!
The response of excitement and cheers from the crowd was wonderful. Children looked on in wonder and amazement and the adults tapped their feet to the energetic music! Many of you worked hard giving out our leaflets as well as collecting money for local charities. We are extremely proud of each and every one of you who put in so much effort to make the Belly dancing float and dance displays such a memorable occasion .We will be compiling a video of the event which will be available at a later stage. This may be a while in coming but I will keep you posted of the progress
Finally, many thanks to all of you who worked hard behind the scenes preparing the Sitara float. Thanks also to everyone who helped us with props and especially Chris (from Chelmsford) for the stunning scenery art work. Thank you also to Betsy’s son Richard who filmed constantly in the hope that we can create a very professional video to capture the fantastic memories forever.
Let’s keep the Belly dance fever alive and hopefully this will be the first of many more exciting future events to come. Well done to you all.
With many thanks
